In 1951, the United Nations (UN) approved the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, which has served since then to protect people who, for fear of being persecuted on account of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, have fled from their country and are unable or unwilling to return. This Convention is based on the principle of non-return (non-refoulement), which states that a refugee should not be returned to a country where he or she faces serious threats to his or her life or freedom.
In Spain, asylum seekers receive a temporary residence permit while their request is resolved, which allows them to work after staying 6 months in the country. It is very important that the application is well explained and supported by writings, evidence and interviews; therefore, the work of a lawyer is essential to receive the protection that is needed.
Thanks to my experience in the Asylum and Refuge Office of the Ministry of Interior, I can help you make Spain the country where you feel safe.
